IES Al-Ándalus students and LIS students did really well providing the citizens with basic information about No Cars Day dated for 14th February. Moreover, two days before that special and eco-friendly celebration LIS students together with 4 ESO enjoyed a treasure hunt, a visit to the Aquarium to learn about marine life in the tropical coast and they also got in Lorosexi Park to watch at those birds which people take care of at this famous openair park. It was a busy morning!

Last Wednesday February 13th, our Erasmus students from Germany and 3º ESO students attended a talk and a workshop about marine life. Two experts came to the high school to explain the different kinds of fishing methods, the sea animals in the red list, how to help them, the harmful consequences of sea pollution, the consequences of global warming for them, so on and so forth.
Some fossils and dissected animals were shown as part of this talk and all students were given leaflets and loads of information to keep our sealife safe and plastic free.

Comics creation and walk along tropical crops of Finca El Zahorí

Our first Al-Andalus High School day and our complementary activities in the Erasmus KA229 project
Last Monday, February 11th, LIS students and teachers were welcomed at Al-Ándalus High School. After the headmaster Javier's welcoming words, LIS students and teachers enjoyed a tour prepared by the youngest Year 1 students who were really excited about meeting German students and showing them the whole school.
After that, LIS students and their teachers, Spanish host students and Cecilia together with the Maths teacher Antonio went to Finca El Zahorí to visit the tropical crops and receiving all kind of explanations about how the weather conditions affect them.

While they were on that school trip, Year 4 students stayed at the school creating comics about Global Warming and Climate Change with the local comic artist Juanfran and the English teachers Mister Martínez and Miss Morales.

Welcome to Almuñécar! Erasmus+

  LIS students + Al-Ándalus Students = Erasmus+ experience!

Last Saturday evening Leipzig International School students landed  at Málaga Airport and arrived at Almuñécar Bus Station where they first met their host Al-Ándalus students and families. It was such an engaging experience to see how they met each other.
After their rest, all Erasmus students and their teachers Gwen, Ángel and Cecilia had "churros con chocolate" as a big breakfast and, after that, walked through a beautiful path from Almuñécar to La Herradura. During the walk, they chatted, got to know better and enjoyed the astonishing views of the tropical seaside.

Night night! Tomorrow LIS students and teachers will visit IES Al-Ándalus for the first time!!

PLAYA PATROL explained the MARNOBA APP to Marina's students in Year 4 at IES Al-Andalus last Thursday January 31st. They are  going to be the Team Captains for those students who participate in a beach clean up video competition for 500 students from ten schools in Almuñécar on February 14th.This is one of the activities organised for the Erasmus+: Freshwater Shortage! Warning!
These students have learnt how to sort plastic collected from the beach and how to catalogue it for a plastic research video project with a live demo with Marnoba App.

Talks about Global Warming in other schools

IES Al-Ándalus students have given talks about the Global Warming in other Primary Schools and High Schools in Almuñécar for two weeks. Their aim is to encourage young citizens to recycle, reuse and reduce the amount of garbage and electricity.
Our students are proud of being the speakmen and speakerwomen of such a relevant current necessity and their effort has been also spread in the local newspaper as you can observe.

IES Al-Ándalus together with The Townhall of Almuñécar and other schools such as IES Puerta del Mar, IES Antigua Sexi, IES Villanueva del Mar, CEIP Arcos de Torrecuevas, CEIP La NOria, CEIP Río Verde and CEIP Virgen de la Antigua will celebrate No Cars Day and a beach cleaning will also take place as a task of this Erasmus+ project Freshwater Shortage! Warning!.

Selection criteria for travelling to Leipzig in April 2019 and enjoy an Erasmus+ experience in Leipzig International School.

1. Be a host family for a LIS student from 9th to 15th February 2019. (3 points).
2. Participate in the Erasmus+ poster context. (0,5 points).
3. Win the poster context. (1,5 points).
4. Participate in the slogan or quote context for the Eramus+ programme. (0,5 points).
5. Win the slogan or quote context. (1,5 points).
6. Give a talk about the Global Warming related to the Climate Change at a Primary School in Almuñécar. (1,5 points).
7. Give a talk about Sealife Protection at a Primary School in Almuñécar. (1,5 points).

The four Spanish teachers have already left Leipzig. Honestly, it has been such a satisfactory professional and cultural experience! Vanesa, Jose, Cecilia and Marina have said “see you soon” to LIS teachers and students but they can’t wait to welcome LIS partners in Almuñécar next February 2019. The Spanish teachers arrived in Leipzig International School with a draft of proposals for LIS visit in Almuñécar and here is the result of the wide variety of tasks, activities and trips arranged between both LIS teachers and the Spanish ones .

Monday 11th

• Visit to Finca el Zahorí: weather data collection and a guided tour to subtropical crops.

• Talk about sea pollution and arrangement for beach cleaning. 

• Comic creation about climatic change with the comic artist Juanfran.

• Water cicle task: “Water drop lifetime”.

Tuesday 12th

• Treasure hunt at Acuario, Loro Sexi and Majuelo Park and information about No Cars Day.

• Comic creation about climatic change with a local comic artist, weather data analysis and statistics collected from Finca el Zahorí.

Wednesday 13th

• A guided tour by the local archaeologist.
• Sea diversity and Ecosystem workshop with Aula del Mar (Málaga).
• Weather data and statistics report.
• Works exhibition about the effects of forbidden products in organic agriculture and those allowed in conventional agriculture in aquifers.

Thursday 14th

• No Cars Day celebration and Traffic measure.
• Beach cleaning. Townhall and Asociación Chelonia collaboration.

Friday 15th

• Visit to the Alhambra (Granada): “Water arteries in the Alhambra”. Farewell.

Afterwork touristic tours in Saxony!

The four Spanish teachers were extremely pleased with all LIS teachers and staff. In fact, they were amazed with Angel and Gwen’s disposition to take them for a walk around the charming and breath-taking historic city of Leipzig after sharing their lessons and working on several Erasmus Plus meeting sessions. 

Together, we visited a wide variety of monuments such as the Monument of Nations, St. Nikolai Kirche, St. Thomas Kirche, Galleries, Coffee Museum, Bach’s memorial and grave, parks, the lake, etc. and we had also the chance of attending a classical music concert at St. Thomas Church and tasting not only multicultural gastronomy but also local German dishes such as Schnitzel and Eisbeim in a farewell dinner.

Job shadowing in Leipzig International School

Guten Morgen! Good morning!

These days have been very interesting at Leipzig International School for Jose, Vanesa, Cecilia and Marina who took advantage of a job shadowing experience. The four Spanish teachers had the chance of attending several lessons with different teachers and a variety of grades. 

Vanesa attended a History lesson with Gary in which students learnt about I World War trenches and a Spanish lesson with Ángel where students made a presentation about the city of Leipzig in Spanish and she had the opportunity to be involved as a Spanish native speaker in an interview about IES Al-Ándalus and Almuñécar.

Similarly, Jose attended an extraordinary Business Management Lesson with Colin and a German Language and Literature one with Susanne in which students read and worked on the analysis of German literary texts.

By that time Cecilia was inmersed in a Chemistry lesson in the lab which took two periods time with Tim. She was amazed about how students were given intructions for five minutes and they worked on their own in experiments.

In the same way, Marina enjoyed a Grade 7 English lesson with Paula focused on a fairy tale writing task and an A level English lesson with Neal in which two hardworking students presented a talk about health and encouraged the other students to participate in an interaction about results and opinions.

The following day, while Marina and Vanesa were working on eTwinning and updating the blog, Jose and Cecilia attended two extra periods of Science lessons with Peter at the lab of the school where they were amazed with the explanations and the working methods involved.
